Consumer law provides protection to those purchasing products and services both in person and online. It is an extremely complex area of law and practitioners can, broadly speaking, be divided into two camps; those who operate on behalf of the consumer seeking redress following the infringement of their statutory rights and those who assist businesses and commercial entities draw up binding consumer contracts. The scope of consumer law legislation has expanded dramatically in recent years with the introduction of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which not only strengthened consumer rights, but brought consumer law into the digital age, affording organisations protection against copyright or intellectual property right theft.
