This is a four-part series for 0-3 PQE Solicitors to help develop critical skills aligned to the SRA competencies. It reflects and builds upon what was formally known as the ‘SRA Management Course Stage 1’.
Clients assume you have the technical knowledge to do the job well. What they notice, and what makes the biggest difference to your firm, is how you handle everything else: how you communicate, manage your time, build relationships and work with others.
The SRA's Statement of Solicitor Competence and Threshold Standard set out what's expected of every solicitor from the point of qualification, and three of the four competence areas are non-technical. This four-part series for 0–3 PQE solicitors builds on the previously compulsory SRA Management Course Stage 1. It turns those standards into practical skills you can use as soon as you're back at your desk, from commercial awareness and client care to delegation and feedback.
