Course Overview

Few people have heard of the Advocate’s Gateway.

The concept behind the Advocate’s Gateway is to make lawyers and judges more effective communicators in order that vulnerable or young people can participate in court proceedings and that young defendants or vulnerable defendants may have a fair trial, notwithstanding the difficulties their youth or disabilities impose upon them.

During this course experienced practitioner and lecturer Olwen Davis will offer guidance on how the Advocate’s Gateway can dramatically improve viewer’s communication with, and the participation of, young and vulnerable people within criminal justice system.

About Instructor - Olwen Davies

Admitted in 1990, Olwen is freelance solicitor-advocate with extensive experience in both defence and prosecution work from the magistrates' court to the Court of Appeal. Olwen has lectured at post- graduate level and has presented many CPD courses for the legal profession, the police, Health and Safety Executive and others. Olwen is the co-author of Jordan's Criminal Practitioners Guide to the Criminal Justice Act 2003 and is an avid supporter of Save UK Justice and the campaign to stop cuts to legal aid and the criminal justice system.
