Learning Outcomes

  • On completion of this course you will:

    • Understand the key principles of tenancy deposit protection
    • Be able to identify which deposits must be protected
    • Be able to advise landlords regarding the deposit scheme, the process which they must follow and the penalties which they will incur if they do not comply
    • Be able to advise tenants entering into a tenancy agreement and offer guidance on how to ensure their deposits are returned in full, and what to do if this does not happen
    • Be aware of the ways in which disputes can be avoided and be able to confidently advise the client should the matter go to court

What is the target audience?

  • This course will be of interest to practitioners who advise both landlords and tenants and will offer guidance when advising clients regarding deposit legislation, the tenancy deposit scheme, how to avoid deposit disputes and the defences available should disputes occur.



About Instructor - Richard Quenby

Richard was called to the Bar in 1985. For the next thirteen years he practised at the Chancery Bar in Manchester, where he specialised in landlord and tenant, commercial property and insolvency work.

Richard now works as a freelance writer, tutor and lecturer. His published articles have appeared in Estates Gazette, Property Week, Legal Week and The Lawyer. He is also the co-author of Flat Schemes in Residential and Mixed Use Developments, published by Bloomsbury Publishing.
