Most conveyancing CPD tells you what the law is. This one tells you what HM Land Registry sees when your application lands on its desk, and it comes with the numbers. Between October 2023 and September 2024, variations in names generated 114,000 requisitions. Missing information generated 110,000. Plans and descriptions, identity and missing evidence generated around 80,000 each. Every one of those was avoidable.
Dr Roger Holdom leads HM Land Registry's customer training and market strategy work, including its programme of online workshops for conveyancers. He writes for the HM Land Registry blog and speaks nationally on requisitions and on raising application quality at source. This session is him bringing the data to the profession and then showing what is available to fix it.
The second half is the support that already exists and that most firms do not use: free customer training workshops and webinars, the Land Registration Academy, the Customer Charter, digital checks and validation, Property Alert, portal Reply to Requisition, portal View Applications and business unit reporting, and the Practice and Process, Right First Time and Landnet publications. It closes on what is coming, which is commonhold, contractual controls, Unique Property Reference Numbers and INSPIRE IDs, and qualified electronic signatures.
