In this Mental Health Compliance In Legal Practices 2023 webinar we will be considering the changes happening within mental health compliance in legal practice that are soon to be introduced by parliament and the Solicitors Regulation Authority. This free live webinar will be beneficial for solicitors and law firms as we will discuss updates in regulatory compliance for mental health, mental wellbeing in the legal industry, and stress management.
In this live webinar we will also be joined by expert speaker Angela Mappin, a MHFA Instructor who will be discussing the benefits that Mental Health First Aiders training can have within organisations and share some tried and tested techniques for stress management.
We all know that organisations couldn’t achieve what it wants to achieve without its people but did you know that an estimated 50% of all cases of sick leave last year was due to mental illness (source: HSE). This figure is shockingly high, and one that can certainly be lowered by training Mental Health First Aiders and working on a more open culture where people are encouraged to talk about how they feel.
Mental Health First Aid is a growing initiative that teaches people how to have supportive conversations with confidence. In general, the role of a Mental Health First Aider in the workplace is to be a point of contact for an employee who is experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress. This interaction could range from having an initial conversation through to supporting the person to get appropriate help.
Mental Health First Aid also has the backing of some MP’s who want to see MHFA have the same status as physical first aid, which would mean it would become the law to have trained MHFAiders. In fact, at the end of January this was discussed (for the second time) in parliament and an MHFA law was proposed. Although it wasn’t agreed, it will continue to be high on the agenda and with the support of organisations like Mind, Rethink Mental Illness and Mental Health First Aid England it will happen at some point.
