Delivered by lecture Steph Barber of Law Hound, this two-part course will examine the basics of mental health law within England and Wales relating to the definition of Mental Disorder whilst looking at the most common types of mental illness.

Consideration will also be given to the treatment that may be available to those suffering from mental disorder and the legal provision for that.

This course will consider the following:

·         The definition of Mental Disorder under the Mental Health Act

·         Definitions before the 2007 Act

·         The 2007 Act definition

·         Commonly diagnosed mental illnesses

·         Department of Health’s Code of Practice Mental Health Act 1983

·         Mental capacity
