Course Overview

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is set to come into force in May 2018, and introduces the greatest changes to data protection legislation in over 20 years.

This bite-size session will examine the main changes that the GDPR will make to the rights of individuals and will focus on which current rights are set to be strengthened and what new rights will be introduced.

Designed by Law Hound lecturer Robert Edwards, this session has been designed as an introduction to GDPR and a reminder for professionals regarding their data protection obligations and will consider the following rights:

  • The right to be informed
  • The right of access
  • The right to rectification
  • The right to erasure
  • The right to restrict processing
  • The right to data portability
  • The right to object to processing
  • Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling

About Instructor - Robert Edwards

Robert Edwards has a long history of providing legal training in criminal, immigration and mental health law.

Bob, now a law lecturer, started his legal career in the armed forces in counter intelligence before his 2nd career commenced in 1996. He has lectured extensively to students studying the ILEX, LLB and for CPE and LPC qualifications, trained the Legal Services Commission and Court Service as well as the RAF police force. Bob's forces career took him across the world advising on various Immigration and Criminal Law matters. He has a natural ability to explain the complex in simple terms.
